Starting an Individual Entrepreneur (IE) in Armenia

Required Documents for IE Registration

1. Notarized passport translation
Done at a notary office or translation bureau. Russian citizens can use their internal Russian passport, but we strongly recommend using an international passport.

2. SSN (Social Security Number)
Not mandatory, but highly recommended to obtain and specify immediately. However, without it, the accountant will not be able to submit a number of reports.

3. Fees and commissions
State fee โ€” 3000 AMD. The fee is paid in cash or by card.

4. If you previously had an IE
Provide a copy of the IE certificate or a document about its closure. In this case, the IE will be restored with the same taxpayer number.

Choosing a Tax Regime After Opening an IE

โ— Important:
Within 20 days after IE registration, a notification about switching to the simplified regime (turnover tax) must be submitted if it applies to your type of activity. This is done online through the taxpayer's personal account.

If this is not done โ€” the tax rate will be significantly higher. Closing and reopening the IE will not help.

When you can change the tax regime:
โ€” within 20 days after registration,
โ€” or from February 1 to 20 of each year.

Bank Requirements: Proof of Residence in Armenia

Banks require showing proof of residence or plans to live in the country.

Suitable documents:

  • Rental agreement
  • Registration in the country
  • Property ownership certificate

Additionally:

  • Bank statements from RA/RF for 6+ months
  • Border crossing stamps in the international passport

Rental agreement:

  • Simple agreement format โ€” address, passport details of parties, basic rights and obligations are sufficient.
  • Can be in Russian, Armenian, or English.
  • For multiple tenants โ€” full name and passport details of each are required.

Alternatives to the agreement:

  • Registration in an apartment or house you own โ€” the strongest argument.
  • Residence certificate is also accepted.

โš ๏ธ Important: banks evaluate actual residence, even short-term, as a key indicator for IE.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Opening an IE Account in Armenian Banks: What You Need and Why

Banks evaluate IEs more strictly than individuals โ€” essentially as small businesses.

Average requirements (based on experience with most banks):

  • Passport (preferably international passport)
  • IE certificate
  • Notarized translation of passport into Armenian
  • Social Security Number (SSN / social card)
  • Client contracts โ€” confirm real activity
  • Bank statement from previous country
  • Proof of plans to reside in Armenia

Even if clients are foreign platforms, their standard agreements with developers or content creators will work.

Important:
The bank must see that you actually live in Armenia.
